When an infant is born its grain is, to a great extent, a “blank slate”. Of course there are a great number of basic reflexes already established. However, with respect to thought and reason the brain is open to the various influences of the environment.
The ability to think and reason is determined by the genetic make-up of each individual. That ability can not be changed by the environment. But, the tracts established in the brain, they are influenced by the environment-what the child sees, hears, feels, etc. And, that creates a variety of serious problems.
Parents want to influence the development of their children. That seems to be normal. In any society there are certain basic, fundamental, ideas, maybe universals, that every “civilised” individual should be taught and that he should follow. The basic tenants of living in any society have been taught through the ages, back to the very origin of so-called “human” beings. There seems to be little controversary with respect to that form of indoctrination. However, there are certain concepts and ideas that probably should not be taught.
Before the child begins to even realise what is happening, he sees and listens to what is taking place around him. Concepts and ideas form in his developing brain without any effort on his part. Under such circumstances, does the brain of the victum have any chance of developing in a “normal” fashion?
The parents feel that they have the “right’ to indoctrinate their children. If the parent happens to be Moslem what opportunity might the child have of making an independent decision with respect to religion? If the parent, or parents, happen not to like black people and the child hears derrogatory remarks referring to blacks, how will he ever be prepared to form his own, independant, opinion of blacks?
And so it goes with respect to every aspect of the developing brain. Some people have offered the idea of taking the child away from the parents at birth. The trouble with that idea is that, then, the “abductors” implant their ideas which might be even more biased than those of the parents! How might the parents be made more open-minded when they have already been brain-washed by their parents ?
What is the chance than an infant will have any chance of developing into a free-thinking, rational, unbiased individual ? Not much ! The concepts formed during early childhood are very difficult to overcome. Only in a very small minority of individuals does it happen. The victum starts to think, to reason, to question, and then the trouble for him really begins !
The answer – Before conception, choose your parents very carefully. There is some hope – in the future it may become possible to have a ‘gene makeover”.
Cheer up ! There may still be a way out of thie mess !
